http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/1C00446FCF30508E" - Hi Andre,
I have watched your fights the last few years only because my girlfriend father, John Gonsalves, who was a friend of your Grandfather has us over for dinner and to watch your fights. He and Barbara are so proud of you. Thank you for spreading God's word and love and being his witness. My question is, when is your next fight? God bless, Brian & Julie. By Brian McCleary From National City, CA
- "Brian-
Thank you so much for your support and for taking the time to write. My next fight will be April 17th against Allan Green. Stay tuned to the website for more information as additional details are set.
Andre" - Hey Ward! Been a fan since before pullin caddies up the street! Whats the deal now that Taylor pulled out? Im supa excited bout this tournament! Cant wait till April 17th! I have been to all ur fights in California and Plan on traveling if thewse fights are not in Cali! GOOD LUCK!By ES From San Francisco, CA
- "Hi, thanks for your writing and your support. Allan Green has replaced Jermain in the tournament and will be my opponent on April 17. The final location hasn't been set yet but the full info will be posted to the site as soon as it's available. Hope to see you at the fight."
- Happy New Year CHAMP. I just want to say congratulations on winning the WBA championship belt. Me and my friends are big fans of yours. We know you will win the Super 6 Tournament. You fought an amazing fight against Kessler, executed the perfect fight plan Andre. You got alot of new fans here in Canada, the Tournament is being shown on national sports TV here and people are loving the tournament. I truly love the sport of boxing and i'm so excited about the future of boxing. If you like reading boxing books read "Sweet Thunder-The Life & Times Of Sugar Ray Robinson" its an amazing book. I hope you make it to Canada one day or i make it to one of your fights. God Bless, take care champ Peace By Paul McCorrister From Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
- "Paul-
Thanks so much for the note and for your support. I would love to get up to Canada sometime. You guys are great fight fans and I hope to box there one day.
Thanks again for your support.
Andre" - Andre, I realize you probably receive questions like this all the time, but what advice do you have for someone who wants to become a true student of the sport? I plan to get a degree in journalism and focus my career on boxing and, as I work toward that goal, I want to immerse myself in the sport. What do you suggest?By TJ From Houston, TX
- "Watch as much boxing as you possibly can, old fights, any fight that is on TV, try to be in front of your TV. Simply put, watch as much boxing as you can. Try to get to know the personalities in the sport and what makes the key figures in the sport tick. Everyone has their own story to tell and it’s up to you to help them tell it. I hope this was of some help to you. Good luck."
- First and foremost, thanks for answering my previous question. I box previously at 19 and 20 but I paid more attention to my studies. When it come to my workouts, I train very similar to you. I run flatlands, hills, and stairs(within a 5-6 mile distance). The west side of the Bronx comprise of a lot of hills. One piece of information I learned about is Fartlek style running. It's either a Norwegian or Swedish way of running where you run a fair distance(4 miles) with all out sprints in between. You run at a moderate pace for ten minutes then sprint to your maximum speed. The sprint are about 30 seconds then you jog to recover(interval running except more extreme). With Plyometrics, I do medicine ball power ups, squat jumps, tuck ups, lateral box push-offs,lateral hurdle jumps, and single leg lateral jumps. Calisthenics comprise of clap push-ups, wide grin chin ups, switch grip pull-ups, and dips. I incorporate weightlifting twice a week, for I realized being too muscular make for poor flexibility and cardio. I know Virgil Hunter understand that for boxing being too muscular is detrimental to peak performance. That's alittle bit of my wisdom when it comes to physical fitness. Blessings with your upcoming bouts with Pudwill and Kessler. Peace be with you.By Sulaiman Muhammad From Bronx, NY
- "Wow man, you sound like a beast. Maybe you should put the boxing down and go into bodybuilding, LOL. Sounds like you have an awesome program, keep up the good work and I’m going to do the same, man."
- Hey Brother Ward!
Congrats onb the recent win against Miranda. I had been offered tix but couldnt get off work, but listened to radio/internet updates. Been a fan ever since your olympic run in 04'. I was in Arkansa visiting relatives and told them about you (being from Oakland and representing The King)-- loved how you spoke up for our faith everytime the mike came your way. And you havent changed that rep since. Praying for you and excited for what God will do for and through ya bro.
I will contact your media person regarding my request for any speaking opportunities in OUSD or WCCUSD schools where I and my collegues teach leadership/goals development classes with our young brothers and sisters in the Oakland/Richmond area. Hope you can maybe stop by and offer some encouragement (and glorify Jesus at the same time!)
God bless ya brotha!
- Bro. DarrylBy Darryl McMillon From Hercules, CA
- "Thanks for the note, I appreciate the prayers and support. Definitely reach out on those speaking opportunities and we'll see if we can get it set up.
God bless you as well." - Andre its Dave who used to train with Henry. I just wanted to stop by the site and say hi and tell you how amazing I think it is you take the time to truly answer your fans. I can't wait to see you at your next fight. I hope we can run into each other again. How are the kids? Good luck and God bless Andre, if anybody in the world deserves to be champion its you.By David Murray From Las Vegas, NV
- "I always love the chance to talk to my fans. Thanks for the note and hope to see you my next fight."
- What's up 'Dre? Big fan of yours here and a fellow believer, man! I just was wondering if you have any sort of gameplan yet heading into the Kessler fight? We all know he doesn't like working off of angles, he's a straight forward, come-ahead fighter. Think if you can keep away from that laser jab he's got and try coming in with more lateral movement you can make it a long night for him? And do you think you might try and go for the extra KO point with any of these guys - Froch would be the first that comes to mind?By William G Russell From Aurora, Canada
- "Hey man, sounds like you know your stuff. You are absolutely right, angles and foot speed give Kessler a whole lot of problems and we’re going to bring a lot of that to the table. Definitely if the opportunity presents, itself, I’m going for the knockout. Not only will it look good on the resume, but that’s three points, baby. Stay tuned for the next three years, it’s going to be a blast. Christ is King!!!"
- Hi Mr. Ward
I saw your fight in may and I want to thank you for representing the town right in the ring, and more importantly out of the ring as well. But my question is: how is it that you are fight so often (may 19, september 12, and november 21) and still come out fresh and finely tuned for the next fight? You're an inspiration to all of us oakland kids. ThanksBy henry From Oakland, CA
- "it’s an honor and privilege to represent the Bay Area the way I am. It’s a lot of responsibility but I love it. I contribute my success to the grace of God, that’s my story I’m sticking to it. I have to think that way when I’m in such a brutal sport and able to experience success and come out unscathed. I would not want to be in a sport like this without God in my life and that’s for real. I’m glad I can be an inspiration to you. Chase your dreams with everything you’ve got.
Q:" - hi andre im 15 years old and a boxer from england i was just wondering how your first 10 amature fights went ? thanks lindenBy linden From canterbury, United Kingdom
- "Linden, thanks for taking the time to send your question. My first 10 amateur fights went pretty well. I lost my first amateur fight though, even though I thought I won but that gave me the determination to never want to lose another fight after that. I went a long time before I ever did. My full amateur record was 115-5. As you see, I don’t like to lose a lot. Keep working hard champ, I know you’ll do great."
- wazup andre dis is rily not a question but more of a compliment. thnks for the hospitality you to our countrymen nonito donaire, 'coz im a filipino too. i apreciate you, i idolize you, just keep your feet on the ground.. bcause GOD will nver fail to give you blessings to a humble guy like you,
is there a chance that you and winky wright or bernard hopkins in the ring?
you deserve to face them in the ringBy filjo50 From , Philippines
- "Hey man, thanks for the wonderful comments. Nonito is my man, we came up together when we were younger and I’m so happy for all the success he’s experiencing right now. Nonito’s the man. I don’t think me and Bernard or Winky will ever fight. They are at a different phase in their career now, where they are fighting for the big bucks and deservedly so. I’m at the phase where I still have to prove myself and I understand that. I’m going to keep chipping away until something happens and I know I will be wearing a world title around my waist like Nonito very soon. Thanks for the love and support."
- Mr.Ward,
First let me start off by saying I personly think you are one of the greatest of all time. I started following your career in the olyipics. To watch a young man from Oakland make it the way you did was great to see. But then to listen to you give all the credit to the Lord Jesus Christ was the best. If more youths from Oakland would put Jesus first in thier live as you have we would see a great differnce in the lives of inner-city youth. Thanks for being a great example to our youth in a world with so little for them to look up to. I also work with the youth though a AWANA program at my church. If you would ever consider stopping at our church and speaking to the kids that would be great. I know you are a busy man and if you can't thats ok. Either way you and your family are in my prayers. Good luck on your upcoming matches. For you are the only true champion in my mind.
Your Brother in Christ,

- "Thanks so much for the prayers and your support. I really appreciate it. I am currently in training camp for my September 12 fight with Shelby Pudwill, but the best way to set something up is through one of my PR people, Julie Goldsticker and you can reach her at julie@goldstickerpr.com."
- Hi Andre - I worked with your father Frank at NewBridge on the weekends. I was there for his funeral. It was the first time I had cried in years. I am so happy to see that you have been so successful in your career. It's all he ever wanted for you. He talked about you all the time and was so devoted to you. May he rest in peace and may you go on to achieve all your dreams.
Marshall DritchBy Marshall From Santa Clara, CA
- "Hey Marshall, I appreciate you taking the time to visit the site and send these wonderful comments. I love hearing from or running into my dad’s old friends, especially from Newbridge. If my dad was here , I know he’d be having a ball with everything that is going on in my life from my career to his grandkids, etc. I hope all is well with you and I appreciate all the love and support."
- Mr. ward your amatuer bouts were fonaminal way too go how long did it take u too turn pro hi i just graduated high school and wanting to be come a professional boxer like yourself how ever now im a heavyweight with alot of power in both hands and speed should i go down in weight or whatBy Javon cooper From St. petersburg, FL
- "Even though boxing is a sport that I really love, I don’t recommend it for a lot of people. I say that because it takes a lot away from your life in terms of dedication, sacrifice and focus. On the other hand, I never try to discourage a person from following their dreams. What I recommend is that you go down to your local gym (not sure what city you live in), find a good trainer and tell them what you’d like to do, give boxing a shot for one whole month and then from there, I guarantee you will know if this is something you want to do or not. Give it a shot, get back at me and let me know how it went."
- What up Andre! Ive been following you since the Olympics ( You made US proud ). You are one of my top 3 favorite Boxers (Cotto & Pac-Man the other 2).
Questions:
1. Any ideas on where the fight with Kessler is gonna take place?
2. Looks like you'll have a fight in SEPT before tournament. Is it hard getting up for a TBA?
3. Are you affiliated with TEAM Jordan?
Stay Strong, I pray that God gives you the strength to WIN this whole tournament.
"Yet those who wait for the LORD Will gain new strength; They will mount up with wings like eagles, They will run and not get tired, They will walk and not become weary." Isaiah 40:31By Rome From Bronx, NY
- "The fight with Kessler is going to be in Oakland and I will be facing Shelby Pudwill on September 12 at the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula and on Showtime so check it out. Thank you for your prayers."
- Hey Andre... Man where do i start. First of all congrats on everything. You prolly dont remember but we fought as kids... I was a part of Timothy Bradleys team the only white boy. I lost of course... I think it was Jr.Golden Gloves... Well just wanted to tell you that im a huge fan.. I keep you and Timothy Bradley in my prayers whenever your training for a fight...My 2 favorite fighters in the world... Much love and God BlessBy Perry Keith From Palm Springs, CA
- "It’s been a very long time, but no I don’t remember you. You may have to send me a picture next time. It’s awesome to know people are out there praying for you, especially in a combat sport like boxing. I appreciate all the support, man. Stay close to the lord, stay focused and stay on the right track and I hope to talk to you soon."
- Whats up Andre? Like the site. That new Super Six Tourney is gonna be awesome. Your fight against Kessler is supposed to be in Oakland, I was wondering when thats gonna be confirmed so I can swoop tickets?I see you at my work somtimes in Dublin Lowe's and I just wanted to say that you made a bunch of fans at my store by being gracious and taking the time to talk to them. Anyways im pumped for 9-12 and 11-21. Good luck! I hope to be at both.By Rick From Livermore, CA
- "Thanks for the support. Ticket information isn't available yet, but stayed posted to the site for all the details. Hope to see you at my fight."
- what did you train on most when you started boxing and do you have any good tips that could help me on being a great boxer??
p.s. good luck with the tourneyBy luke From , United Kingdom
- "The main thing that I was trained to do when I first came to the gym was to work on my feet first then my hands. These days, trainers teach fighters to work on their hands first and then their feet and that’s why you see some fighters with great hands but bad footwork. Basics, basics, basics. Repetition, repetition, repetition. I know it’s boring, but that’s how you become great. Of course, work on your conditioning as often as you can, i.e. running hills, sprints, etc. I hope you become the next world champ."
- What's up Andre,
I went to that Miranda fight in Oaktown with 2 of my friends and man were we impressed! You put on a hell of a show and the crowd was insane. We were yelling "S.O.G.!" the whole fight! Anyway, I noticed during that fight that you could've knocked Miranda out if you would've been a tad bit more aggressive and I was wondering if you're going for the kill against Kessler if/when you hurt him or if you're just gonna play it safe and cruise to a decision a la pre-Pavlik Bernard Hopkins? By the way, I bet $100 with one of my co-workers on you beating Kessler so you better come through for me man! Destroy Kessler! No mercy!By Brandyn From Vacaville, CA
- "A: I’m glad you guys had a wonderful time at the Miranda fight. You’re right, that was an awesome night for myself, my team and for the Bay as a whole. I think you’re right, as I watched the tape of Miranda, there were certain spots that I could have stepped up and got him out of there, but to Miranda’s credit, he never stopped coming and he never stopped trying to land that big punch. Sometimes it looks easier on the outside than it does on the inside. That’s what fights like that are for, to teach you lessons, you can use in your next fight. That being said, if I get Kessler hurt, I’m going in to stop him. I hope you bring some more people to the fight November 21st. there’s nothing like your hometown chanting your name. I loved it, I appreciate it and we need more of it. Talk to you soon."

I am a lifelong boxing fan located in Canton, Ohio and wanted to ask you a question about the super middleweight division: After your victory over Edison Miranda, which governing belt (WBC, WBA, or IBF) are you likely to go after should the opportunity present itself depending on your ranking?

With the super middleweight tournament coming up, I will face Mikkel Kesller for the WBA belt on November 21, most likely in Oakland. Before I can get there, I have to take care of business with Shelby Pudwill on September 12." - Mr. Ward:

Thanks for writing. I am currently preparing for a September 12 fight in Temecula, California, that will be live on Showtime and that is my focus now. - What do you think about this upcoming tournament? Are you excited about facing some of the top guys in the division?By TT From , CA
- "The super six tournament was an awesome idea by Showtime and all the promoters that are involved. Initially when I heard about the tournament, I didn’t think it would go through, but obviously it’s going down and all the fighters have signed the contracts. My main goal with the tournament is to take it one fight at a time and obviously my first goal is to capture the world title from Mikkel Kessler on Novemer 21st and we’ll go from there. Thanks for your question."
- As a boxing fan and as a member of the human race, my motto is go hard or go home. Even though I had my worries when you stepped into the ring with Edison Miranda, I watched you epitomize that life proverb. I was not only amazed at what a great job your cut man did, but how exceptionally you maintained your focus throughout the remaining rounds after the head butt. I think you're the smartest fighter I've ever watched. I'm looking forward to following your career. Be blessed.By TJ From Houston, TX
- "Thanks so much for your support and God Bless you as well."
- I'm extremely excited about this super middleweight round-robin. I just saw that you're paired with Mikkel Kessler in the 1st round. In my opinion, the champion of the whole thing will come from that bout. You're the two best talents in the tournament. How are you preparing for him? He hasn't really fought out of Europe so its hard to compare fights with similar opponents. I thought he gave Calzage one of the better fights Calzaghe ever saw. But it seems that speed can neutralize him. Let us know how you'll be preparing for that fight. Best of luck to you in that tournament. I have a feeling you'll be a household name when its over. By Kurt From Brigham City, UT
- "I definitely feel like Mikkel Kessler is the top fighter in the super six tournament other than myself. He’s definitely the man to beat and I got him in the first round. I wouldn’t want it any other way. I’m preparing for Kessler just like I would any other fight with intense training, a lot of focus, coupled with a lot of fun. Just because I’m fighting for my first world title doesn’t mean I have to change much. I just have to continue doing what I’ve been doing, just do it a little better. I feel like destiny is getting closer, I’m definitely very excited about this fight, more than any fight I’ve ever fought before. I don’t want to disappoint so I’m doing everything I can do in my power to be prepared for this fight on November 21st. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and thanks so much for all your support. Hope to talk to you soon."
- What up DRE!? haha
seriously though, i was wondering how you came about signing with the Jordan Brand? how were you chosen to rep the Team? what does it mean to you to wear the Jumpman on your gear? good luck in your future bouts.By Luis Rodriguez From Granada Hills, CA
- "It definitely was an honor to be associated with a brand like Jordan. I was only the second boxer in history to ever get a deal like that. The deal came about, I believe, partly due to my relationship with Roy Jones, Jr., and partly due to my Olympic gold medal status. It is an unbelievable feeling to rep Jordan brand on any level, not to mention all the shoes they sent me. I love shoes. LOL."
- Dre, first off, 'Congratulations' on all your success! You've been determined as well as 'blessed'.
The question I have is, when people have these things to say to you about becoming the first Boxing World Champ from the Bay, why is it that we've never heard you 'Accept Graciously' of course the things they do have to say,but as well 'add' to it that, though they are not around to defend themselves, nor have they been quite the role model that 'you have' been, but that someone by the name of James Page already reached that honor of the Bay's first Champ (aside from Big George). I know you're the 'next' on the list of fighters to 'Go Big' in the area, but it 'always' sounds good, as well as 'respectful' when fighters acknowledge fighters prior to themselves...especially when from the 'same' background. I'm sure you would want 2020's up and coming boxer from the Bay to acknowledge you, when the time is fitting..... wouldn't you?
All is Good...and as you know, God is Great! I commend you for your accomplishments ma brotha and no pun intended, I just want us to stick together, We're Bay Boyx! (non other like us).
Now, how bout a couple tickets, couple pieces of S.O.G. gear and a invite to support u as a guest in your corner in your next local fight....?? (lol)
Go Gett'em!
(just be careful as i know you are, in the 'business' aspect of it all...i been there, done that). By D.Mills From Richmond, CA
- "I appreciate your comments. I never knew that people were saying that I was going to be the first world champion from the Bay Area. I watched James Page win his world titles, and he gave me guidance and advice, so by no means would I try to take any glory from James Page or anyone that has come before me. Concerning George Foreman, even though George trained at the Pleasanton Fair Grounds for a period of time, he was not a born and bred Bay Area fighter. Again taking nothing away from George, if he was a Bay Area fighter, he would get his just due from me. The point I’m trying to make is, I’m not trying to the first. I’m doing my part to bring a championship to the Bay and more importantly something positive. In terms of the SOG gear, you can to andresogward.com, and you will find everything you need. Stay posted for ticket sales for my November 21st fight with Mikkel Kessler in Oakland and tune in September 12 when I fight against Shelby Pudwill on Showtime Championship Boxing. Have a good one."
- GREAT WIN OVER MIRANDA. WOULD YOU FIGHT AT THE STAPLE CENTER IN LA. FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP OR DO YOU PREFER LAS VEGAS. WHAT SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMP OR CHAMPS DO YOU WANT TO FIGHT? IF YOU WIN THE BELT WILL YOU DEFEND YOUR TITLE IN OAKLAND? YOU ARE DOING GREAT AND I PLAN TO SEE YOU FIGHT AGAIN IN LAS VEGAS. IM READY TO BOOK MY ROOM. By ROBERT DEHOYOS From HAYWARD, CA
- "Robert- Thanks for the congrats. As you have already heard by now, I’ve entered the Super Six tournament and my first title fight will be in Oakland. A lot of people ask me about Vegas and I understand why, because it is the boxing mecca. I would like to fight in Vegas one day, but my current goal is to bring major fights to the Bay Area."
- Andre,
Please let me first say that seeing an athlete achieve success as you have while continuing stay humble and down to earth is, to me, even more inspiring than your accomplishments in the ring. I am a fan in every sense of the word. My question is this, with the dangers and violence that are prevalent in the Bay Area, specifically in Oakland, these days what advice would you give young people who are trying to find their way? I work at a non profit that works with high school students and would love to be able to hear the thoughts of someone who has survived the pitfalls. My sincere thanks Mr. Ward.
Jon Gordon, San Leandro, CABy Jon Gordon From San Leandro, CA
- "Hey Jon, thank you for your amazing comments and questions. I agree that there is currently a lot of negativity in the city of Oakland and the Bay Area as a whole. The best advice that I can give to the youth in the area is to find something that they are good at and something that they like to do to and strive to the very best that they can be. I would also advise them to not to be afraid to be different. If everyone else wants to go right, then go left. If everyone else wants to wear black, then wear white. While they might be persecuted by their peers for their decisions at the time, they will soon realize that their peers are wondering why they chose to be different. I had a major advantage in my life as I gave my life to Jesus Christ at a young age. I also faced trials and hardships in my own life but continued to pursue my dreams and by my staying close to him and live a life that was pleasing to him. Hey man, continue to give them the truth, even if they don’t receive it right away and just look at it like you are sowing seeds."
- First off, congrats on your current success thus far. I was wondering do you have a consistent healthy diet? How many miles a day you run? How do you think you will fare against the like of Andre Dirrell? Last but not least, I'm 24 going on 25(in great shape) and I eat healthy. I do cardio, plyometrics, calisthenics, and weightlifting from time to time. Do you believe I can fare well in amateur boxing? I figure I can ask you since you have a great amateur pedigree and you're an olympic gold medalist. Keep up the good working and peace be with you.By Sulaiman Muhammad From Bronx, NY
- "Yes, when I'm training, I have a pretty consistent diet. Virgil, my godfather and trainer prepares most of the meals in training camp. Without getting too specific, they're just good, clean high-energy meals that are also tasty. He does a great job of balancing the taste and nutrition of my meals. I do a lot of different workouts. Currently I'm just doing pilates, my boxing work at the gym, and a lot of my cardio is done in the hills. It's one thing to run four miles flat and it's something totally different to run four miles in the hills. Hill work is the ultimate conditioner for the lungs and the legs. It definitely tests your mental fortitude as well. If you get a chance, send me a little bit more info on what you do. You sound like have an awesome workout plan and I'm always open to new ideas and tips. As far as you boxing, techinically 24 years old is a late start in the sport but never say never. Go down to your local gym and commit to a month of training and see you how fare, and that will help your decision. I will be looking out for that workout plan soon."
- Sup Andre!!
I don't if you remember me. I was one of the escorts at Mt. Eden when you went. I had the opportunity to see you fight in Oakland (my first live boxing match) and thought you did an great. Thanks for making my first live boxing match memorable. By the way, after seeing you box I got juiced up lol! and i'm thinking of doin Collegiate Boxing while I do college. Do you have any advice (like boxing or training wise) and is there any gyms in Oakland or Hayward that I can go to during the summer. Thanks! and keep up the amazing work!By Celestino Garcia From Hayward, CA
- "Hey Bro, yes I do remember me. You guys were awesome that day. I had a great time. I think collegiate boxing would be a great start. That way, it will give you a chance to get your fight wet without getting thrown in over your head. a local gym I recommend in Hayward is the very first gym I started at, which is U.S. Karate and Boxing. The owner's name is Joe Silva. Go in and tell him I sent you and he'll take care of you. Sorry for the late response, I've been really busy. Let everyone know about the site."
- Andre,
Congratulations on your great victory over Miranda. I sometimes work out down at Kings and want to get back over there! It's a great workout. My question for you is: Do you want to fight Andre Dirrell now or later? I'd prefer that you both get a belt and fight a unification fight at 168 later in your careers, because it would be an awesome superfight like Leonard and Hearns 1. By Chris From Oakland, CA
- "Yeah, you're absolutely right. Boxing is a great way to get fit. It's fun and it's better than just being in a fitness club for two hours. As you already know, Andre Dirrell and I are in the super six tournament, so it's just a matter of time before we meet. We both would have preferred to wait a little bit longer, but the opportunity to be in this tournament was something neither of us could pass up. So stay tuned and we'll see what happens."
- when you train do you prefer to listen to music? if so what type?By Chris From Oakland, CA
- "Yeah, I love training to music. I don't have my own personal gym right now so I can't always listen to what I want to listen to. Music is a great thing to listen to, it really gets you fired up when you don't feel like training. I like to train to Christian Contemporary and Christian Gospel Rap."
- Hey Andre,
I apologize about the timing of the signing @ my store getting put on hold here in Tempe AZ. We are still excited about having you over. Its like I was telling Scott @ P4P, I want this to be as much of a blessing to you as it is to me. I appreciate your sacrifice. I want to help promote you at a grand scale. I have an audience of 8 million that the LORD has given me. You have the opportunity of a lifetime to be a star at the Oscar Delahoya, Roy Jones Jr. level and higher! JESUS has certainly blessed you with all the Skill and Charisma to be an all time great. I know a true athlete when I see one. Can you say we serve The biggest God!!! The only real GOD!!!! Once again I am encouraged by your love and obedience for my master, LORD and SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST. Once again I apologize for the inconvenience, certain things have changed slightly in me and my families finances, but we are still believing GOD. Stay Strong. GOD bless you my brother.
Patrick ArchuletaBy Patrick Archuleta From Tempe, AZ
- "Mr. Archuleta, thanks for your comments. I have talked to Jason about coming out to your store and I really look forward to coming out whenever you guys feel like it is the right time. As you know, Arizona is a hop and a skip from my hometown and I would really be excited about doing a signing event there. As you may have already earned, I'm entered in the super six tournament but my next fight will be September 12 on Showtime. Maybe after the September 12 fight would be a good time to try to set up a date before the tournament kicks off. I think that would be good for both of us. That aside, I'm encouraged by your faith in the lord, Jesus Christ. Stay focused. Stay humble. Stay faithful and everything will work out for you and your family. God Bless You and I'll talk to you soon."
- Hey Andre,
I was wondering if you may want to consider going after a fight with Bernard Hopkins...I know that he doesnt have a dancing partner right now and I know that you can really shake up the world after you beat him...I know that they want you to fight Dirrell which will be a good fight (actually a real good fight) but I think that fight is high risk-low reward...That can actually be a superfight later on down the road after you guys clean up the division...I say forget the WBC..You could beat a Legend...I know that you may have kinda look up to Hopkins (He WAS my favorite fighter) but business is business right?..another loss will not hurt him....If Jermain Taylor beat him twice then you can beat him too! You can even slap and pitty-pat him to death like calzaghe did..LOL...What do you think about fighting Hopkins?... By Jerron From Bay Point, CA
- "Hey Jerron, thanks for all the love and support. There's probably a one percent chance Bernard and I will ever fight. Bernard has earned the right to fight whoever he wants to fight. He's a living legend in the ring and I doubt he would look my way. Not because he's afraid but because there are other big fights out there for him so why take a chance fighting a young lion like myself. It's high risk, low reward for him. As you already know by now, both Dirrell and I are in the super six tournament coming up. So within the next two years, Dirrell and I will both be dancing partners. Stay tuned, things are heating up. I hope to be the last man standing when everything is said and done. Thanks again for the support, spread the word about the site."
- Dre what's good? Hope you and the Fam are doing we'll.
I was hoping I could send you that pic of you and my sons but can't find any options to send it to you. Just wanted you to have it for your own collection.
My wife was telling me about a story about when she was young, Muhammad Ali visited her Masjid and did the old school magic trick and pulled a quarter out of her ear. Lol
And Now we got a picture with Andre Ward. That was real big for us because my oldest son Ummi, who was just a newborn at the time watched you all the way as you took gold in the Olympics. (Thanks again).
I might just post the picture to my website http://www.how2getwaves.com
or post it to my facebook account so you can just save it to your computer that way.
My wife want the shirt your wife had on but can't find it at pound4pound.com. She will get the black one is available but would really like to have one in red if they make them.

- "Hey bro, sorry for the late late response. I've been really busy, there's a lot going on in my life right now and things are really picking up. You can send the pic to my PO Box 2884, Dublin, CA, 94568. The reason why your wife couldn't find that shirt is because it was homemade, my wife cut her shirt up. Maybe my wife can come up with her own line real soon, LOL. I appreciate all the suppport you and your family have given me. God-willing, we have a world title fight coming up November 21 back in Oakland. First things first, I have to take care of business, September 12 on Showtime and then its championship time after that. Keep in touch, hope to talk to you soon."
- Andre. I see you reppin the S.O.G. What does that mean to you and why? I'm a student of the word myself and love boxing and mma, but as a man who seems to have been chosen by the Father for salvation and to excell in boxing, how does this change your approach to the game and life?By C.D. Smith From Marina, CA
- "Son of God comes from the scriptures GAL 326, which says For you all are sons of God through faith in Jesus Christ irrespective of sex. I guess this just my way of preaching the gospel and letting the world know that through faith in Jesus Christ, you can become a child of God. With the platform I've been given, I've got to get the word out. Thank you for your encouraging comments. It's people like you that keep me going. "

- "I'm glad I could inspire you. Good luck to you in whatever you choose to do.
Andre" - Hey Andre..
I'm glad I found your page, When I watched your fight against Miranda I had to laugh at the announcers saying that Miranda wasn't himself they couldn't see that you had shut him down early in the fight. Great Job. I love your style and your focus in the ring and admire how you handle yourself in this position of responsibility. I know that your goal is to be world champ, but what fighter do you see as a personal favorite choice in the future.
Thanks! Dwayne EhlerBy Dwayne Ehler From Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
- "Wow, thank you for your awesome comments. It's good to hear someone feel appreciated. I agree with everything you said, normally that's how it works. People will an opponent up and when you make them not look as tough as they thought he was going to be, they tear him down at the last minute. That's just the way it is. I thought Steve Farhood and Nick Charles did an awesome job of balancing their comments and calling it the way they saw it. There's not one fighter I favor to fight in the future. My goal is to be a world champion in the future and be champion for a long time. Whoever I have to fight to make it happen, so be it. Thanks for your comment. I hope to hear from you again in the future and spread the word about the fight."
- Hi Andre congradutions on everything you have acomplished in your career and also on your gold medal in the olympics, im 19 years old turin 20 on Dec.20th is it to late to start boxing even though i train myself a little at my house, and also is there any way at all that i could possible be trained by you because your an inspiraton to me and my life's dream would to be tained by you and i would listen and wake up earlier than the time i would start training to get a lil more practice in to become a better boxer and become better at my weak spots well please if you have time to write back to me i would appericate it alot thankz man stay bless and keep up the good work inside da ring n out peaxBy Noi From Laredo, TX
- "While many top boxers starting boxing as kids, it's never too late to try something that interests you. I'm glad that I could motivate you, but I'm not a trainer so I would encourage you to find a coach and a good gym near where you live.
Good luck,
Andre" - Hey Andre, first off, you are a great inspiration and motivation for me inside and outside of the gym and I wish you all the best in life and your pursuits. Outside of the apparent family, God, etc.; what gets you/keeps you motivated in terms of music, movies clips, quotes? By Andrew Black From Lewisville, TX
- "Thank you for your support in the question. I use many things as motivators for me. In particular, I really like the book In a Pit With a Lion on a Snowy Day. I train to Christian contemporary and Christian Gospel Rap (that glorifies god). There are many people who are inspirational to me both in the athletic field and out. I am inspired by anybody who succeeds at the top level of their field."
- Andre,
Congratulations on your latest win against Edison Miranda. You are truly a talented fighter. I am an athlete in the Los Angeles, CA area that is interested in beginning an amateur career in boxing. My question to you is what is the best way to get started? Do you recommend any gyms in particular in the So-Cal area? Keep up the great work! Peace and God bless.By Daniel Hopper From Los Angeles, CA
- "Thanks for your support. There are several gyms in Southern California. Your best bet is probably to contact the registration chair for that area who can point you to a gym near you. His name is Richard Jones and his number is (714) 960-5915.
Good luck,
Andre" - I suffered ACL complete tear Jan 20 2009 preparing for at taekwondo sparring tournament. I have allograft scheduled for June 26th.
On May 16th 2009 while watching your fight with Edison Miranda just (4 months?) after your ACL surgery I noticed you switched to southpaw. Was that becuase it was easier on your knee? Edison Miranda was too busy getting punched to probably even notice and it was quite impressive.
What type of ACL reconstruction did you undergo? How is your knee now? Do you think it is 100% or close?
I will keep watching as I am very interested in following your career and also interested of course in how your knee is doing.
Very impressive fight- one of my favorites.
Thank you for your time in reading this and good luck in the future-
SteveCBy SteveC From glens falls, NY
- "Thanks for the comment, sorry for the delay. I've been really busy lately. I had a cadaver put in. Everything seems to be working well. To answer your question, I'm naturally left handed and that's why from time to time, I will turn Southpaw in my fights. It had nothing to do with my knee, I just wanted to give the announcers something to talk about. I hope everything went well with your surgery. It will be a process to get back to 100 percent but keep at it. Hope to hear from yousoon."
- Hey Andre. First of all congrats on all your acomplishments and great job on your last bout. I am a huge boxing fan and try to watch any fights I can. I saw you fight for the first time on Shobox and you have gained a new fan. The first time I saw S.O.G. in your name really got me curious. I wondered what it stood for and it led me to this website. I had always guessed that it meant Son of God, but now I know. It is really a blessing to know that there are fighters out there who try and witness in thier profession. You hear fighters thank God all the time, but how many really mean it? Talk is cheap! Walk the walk. You are a great example for our young people. Thank you for your testimony and all that you do. By the way do you know of any other boxers who are christian? I know Juan Urango and Paulie Ayala but not sure of any others. Thanks again for your time and May God bless you!By Stephen Soto From Farmington, NM
- "Stephen, like I always say, its always great to hear that Ive gained a new fan!... especially when I'm just being myself, and doing what I do!! I'm glad you were able to catch the fight, hope you enjoyed it. I'm also excited by the fact you were encouraged by something I've said or done along the way. Really, that's what its all about! As a fighter, there is nothing left to do but get better, but as a whole I must stay focused! Many who have gone before me have started out strong, but finished bad!... my goal is to FINISH STRONG!! Honestly, I don't know of any pro boxers, other than the ones you've mentioned who are truly SAVED. God Bless"
- I thought you fought an intelligent and aggresive fight. Being a former fighter myself, the name of the game is to hit and not get hit, its to walk away when its all said and done with your chin up and your brain still working. The greats were awesome at this art of war. (Sugar Ray Leonard, Oscar DelaHoya) My question is, when are you getting a shot at the WBC strap? Also, who do you plan to fight in the next year and when. And when are you doing a Fan Signing in Tempe AZ??!!!By Patrick Archuleta From Tempe, AZ
- "Awesome comments! You clearly have an eye for the game. But honestly, I have come to grips with the fact that in life, people are gonna love you, some might not have one nice thing to say about you. But, the bottom line is, I have to live my life in the middle, and for me, this is where focus and my relationship with God comes into focus! You see, I do what I do for an audience of ONE!... DO YOU FEEL WHERE IM COMING FROM??... Ultimately, I fight because of my love for God, and my obedience to HIM, period!!... and in keeping this mindset and focus, God has no problem promoting His people, thats just the way He is... if we take care of His business, He will take care of ours. In regards to your question, when am I getting a crack at the belt?... Brotha, stay tuned... because I don't even have the answer to that question."
- I do not have a question but just a problem with the 75 year old man who's comments were very negative. I went to the Oakland fight and we must have been at different fights because I saw the opposite of every comment that he made. Your answer shows the type of man you mother raised you and if I had a son I would want him to be like yourself. I have my Andre Ward t-shirt on right now as we speak at work. I was proud to represent Oakland that night and was proud you are from Oakland. Keep on with the training and you will be with the greatest with the personality that you have. Very proud the wear my ANDRE WARD shirt!!!!!By sharon From oakland, CA
- "Thank You for your wonderful comments, and your continued support. It is greatly appreciated. I look forward to hearing from you soon!...Oh yea, continue to spread the word about the T-shirts. Did you really wear it to work?... LOL!"
- Andre,I am so happy for you and yours!I realize that you & Team Ward have been at this for sometime. What a feeling ,being able to fight,in front of your home crowd,at home and having your dream come to fruition!I thank you for what you said on Showtime,I believe ShoBox,when you said that ,you wanted to put Oakland on the map in a positive way.You have and have been representing yourself, your country, your love and faith of God,your home town, your family, etc. You are representing in a positive way,no doubt!I thank you and Team Ward for being so kind.Keep up the GREAT Work!!!Peace and Blessings,UrsulaBy ursula From oakland, CA
- "Ursula, you are absolutely right! Fighting in Oakland, CA has been a dream of mine for a long time. The energy in the building that night truly surpassed anything I have experienced thus far in my professional career. I envision many more great fights at Oracle Arena and possibly in San Francisco too. Also, great to see people like yourself pay attention to the effort that is put forth and to the things that are being said. Thanks for the love and talk to you soon!"
- Good Fight and congrats on the win. Im 27, i love boxing, but i think im old to start training, any advice?By David From new york, NY
- "David, thanks for the congrats! Technically, 27 is a late start in boxing. what I would recommend is that you give it a try for a few months to see if it is something that you really want to do. Let me know how it goes, keep in touch."
- WHAT IS YOUR NEXT STEP IN YOUR CARREER? WHO WILL YOU FIGHT NEXT? DO YOU PLAN ON MOVING UP IN WEIGHT IN YOUR CARREER? IS THE LIGHTWEIGHT DIVISION IN YOUR SIGHTS?
By ROBERT DE HOYOS From HAYWARD, CA
- "Im not sure what's next, I want to fight for a world title my next fight! But at this point every champion seems to be booked until the end of the year, so hopefully we can get something done at that time. Im only 25 years old, and I like to eat!... LOL!... so a move up is inevitable at some point. How high will I go? Thats remains to be seen. Take care."
- Celebrity is a weapon. It’s a weapon that most nonprofits need in order to fight the battles they’ve chosen. It can be used to raise money, bring awareness and manipulate the media. We know that you have a lot of choices: serious diseases, political causes, high profile ‘big’ issues. Most of them are worthy of attention and can get you invited to really cool, well advertised fundraisers and parties; with us, not so much. We have much smaller goals: provide institutionalized children with a skill set that allows them to learn, heal and thrive. We’d like to know if you’d wield your weapon in our simple little war.
There are 80,000 kids in the California Foster Care System. They’re in the system for a reason and that reason probably stinks. They may have been physically or sexually abused, neglected or abandoned, have emotional issues, behavioral problems or some combination of all these factors. They’re called “higher needs” children.
A child that can do the things that thousands of years of Martial Arts wisdom have taught including discipline, quiet calmness and the awareness of others, would no longer be considered higher need. The physical practices stress body control, good decision making and most importantly, grace under pressure. The high needs child that can learn these things might even live a happy, healthy life. That’s why we developed the Somatic Integrity Program to bring the benefits of noncompetitive martial arts to the population that needs it most. And it works, both for the student and the institution. After eight years we’re ready to expand, train more teachers and reach more kids - if we can pay for it.
Through the things we saw with working with the children in the Somatic Integrity program, we became aware of a gap in the foster care system. The people who work in the system are amazing, but there are limits to what they can do. Two of those limits are continuity and providing an extended family for these kids. The absence of these things turns out to be pretty damn important. We saw this and resolved to fix it ourselves. So we started The Gargoyle Project. And it worked, better than we could have imagined. Now we’ve outgrown our ability to fund it ourselves.
This is the part of the letter where we should tell you a long, tearful story of success and impress you with what we’ve already accomplished. We can do that, but only if you’re interested. And we hope you are. We may be small and not very glamorous, but we are very good at what we do. If you want to lend your sword to the fight, we can do it for a lot more kids!
I hope to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Sharon C. McIntosh

- "Hi Sharon, sorry for the delay in my response. As you know i just fought 2 weeks ago. There is a lot going on. i read your comments and would like to speak with you a little more in depth at some point. I think the best thing to do here is to give my assistant Marylyn Aceves a call and explain to her a a little but about what it is you do and she'll touch base with me and we'll see what we can do. You can reach her at: 213-494-4929.
Again, great comments and thank you for posting your thoughts." - How can you call your fight with Edison Miranda boxing ?
You actually ran a marathon, running away from the boxing match that it was supposed to be.
Everytime you did decide to fight you threw a few punches and then went into a clinch, came out of the clinch and ran away again.
Whilst in the clinch (every round) you constantly clamped Miranda's left fist under your right arm (never once recieving a reprimand from the ref.
As forcomparing you with Sugar Ray Robinson and Mohamid Ali, you are not even worthy to carry their "jock strap".
I for one will never pay to watch you run again.
I am 75, have boxed as an amatuer and I watch boxing at every opportunity.

By Sidney I. Willis From Fuquay-Varina, NC
- "Sir, with all do respect, I obviously disagree with you wholeheartedly. I feel as though I fought a good fight, not a great fight. I feel like with just eighteen fights, I defeated one of the most feared fighters in the super middleweight division! A fighter most guys don't want to fight because he is always dangerous. The bottom line is, I was able to win a clear cut victory in front on my home town fans, further my career, and was able to get home safe and kiss my wife and kids! Amen! Thats the name of the game, WIN!! Its unfortunate you feel the way you do, but your entitled to your opinion. I just hope at some point down the road, I can win you as a FAN!! Thanks for your comment.
P.S. And you are absolutely right, I have not done anything yet to be named amongst great fighters such as Sugar Ray Robinson or Muhammad Ali. But one day, I hope to be named amongst those great fighters who have gone before me." - My 11 year-old son is interested in boxing. Is this a safe age to start training? Any recommendations on boxing gyms in the Bay Area? Thanks and congrats on the recent win against Miranda!By Allycia Cornett From San Leandro, CA
- "Thanks so much for the congrts, it was a very intense fight, but just what I needed at this point in my career! Pretty much any age is safe to start boxing if your serious. For example, I started boxing when I was nine, and I've been at it ever since. Recommendations for boxing gyms in the bay would have to be, Kings Gym in Oakland. Or Us Karate and Boxing in Hayward. I highly recommend both. Thanks for your comment and question."
- Hello brother in Christ,

- "Brother Shawn, thank you for your encouraging words. I appreciate all of my fans and I feel blessed that I have a fan that follows me not only because I am a boxer but also because I am a Christian. Yes, you are absolutely right, i do feel that the Lord has given me a platform and I am determined to glorify him with it. I am a firm believer that if you take care of his business he will take care of yours. I go to the Well Christian Church in Dublin, California it is also non denominational. About the Facebook page, it is not run by me. i don't know who started that page but that is why I started the Official Andre Ward Website. There are a lot of people who claim to be me on their website. Rest assured that any response you get on my website is coming straight from me."
- Andre, Its awesome that you use the gifts JESUS gave you to glorify him and not yourself. That is why you are going to conquer every man that is put before you, and GOD is going to continue to give you the desires of your heart! Its awesome to see another believer that keeps it real. Everybody says they're a Christian, but 99% of them are phonies. GOD Bless you my brother, maybe someday we will serve the LORD together side by side. Congradulations on your victory! Its awesome to be young and on fire for CHRIST. Like I tell people when I'm telling them about Jesus "Cool People love JESUS too".

It excites me to hear people like you openly professing their faith and are unashamed about it. Stay focused on the Lord and continue to allow him to use your life for his glory. Brotha believe me, we are side by side in battle right now. May God continue to bless you and keep you. I look for to hearing from you soon."

- Hi Andre, first, congratulations on the win!!
I was wondering if you plan on getting involved in with the nationwide group who's headquartered here in the Bay area, called Knock Out Dog Fighting? The are a nonprofit group that has teamed up with pro boxers and MMA fighters to teach kids that dog fighting is for losers and is not a sign of strength, power or greatness. They have youth-intervention programs in the Bay are to teach kids about self-discipline, self-motivation and what it takes to be a champion...which reduces the potential for these kids to get involved in gang violence and activities like dog fighting. They have won several Bay area awards. I didn't see you on their page so that's why I asked. More information about them can be found at www.KnockOutDogFighting.orgBy Mike Rossi From San Francsico, CA
- "Mike, thanks for the congrats! It was tough win but we got the job done! Thanks for the info on the nationwide group. It's sounds like s great program. Please reach out to my assistant, marylyn aceves at 213-494-4929 and give her a little more information so that I can discuss it with her. These are the kind of programs that I love being a part of... especially in the Bay Area. Again, thanks for the info!"

He and He alone has the power to take the taste of drugs and alcohol out of your mouth. I have seen what drugs and alcohol can do to a person's life and I have also seen what God can do if a person is willing and ready to stop using and you sound like this is where you are at in your life. You will have the strength to continue to walk in victory through your intimacy with the Lord Jesus Christ for he is the God of the universe. I will keep you and Gregory lifted up in prayer. Stay focused and keep your eyes on the Lord and take it one day at a time."
- I have several questions. Did you grow up in west oakand, center street? Are you kin to Meechie, R.I.P and Blane and Shelia Ward? How old are you? I grew up in Oakland but left to establish myself down south just wondering if i knew you as a child?By Tisha Jordan From oakland, CA
- "Hey, thanks for your comment! I actually grew up in Hayward for the first part of my childhood. But in my early teens I moved with my mother to North Oakland, on 55th and Market. No, I'm not kin to those you mentioned, though I know there are many Wards in Oakland. Be Blessed!"

- "First off, thanks for your question. No, that is totally FALSE!!...if it were true, I would tell you. I have never seen Victor face to face!. So I don't know why he would sat that. Thanks."
- I'm a big fan Andre. Miranda aint ready, he don't know. My question is what do you do for cardio/weight training leading up to a fight? ThanksBy Troy Bennett From Lincoln, NE
- "Troy, thanks for your question/comment! Man, I do so many different things. Primarily, in between fights I do most of my hard core strength training, which includes high intensity, explosive type training. Whatever I do, the goal is to get my heart rate real high, while I'm building muscle, but not too much muscle! The goal is not to gain weight, the goal is to get stronger, while I build stamina. Hope that answered your question."

- "Ms. Weekly, thank you so much for your support on May 16. The place was packed and there was a lot of energy in the building and it's because of people like you and Mr. Greene! I have a feeling that this won't be the last time that we put on a great event like this in the city of Oakland. Feel free to post a question/comment anytime. Looking forward to talking to you soon!"

- hey, brotha ward Im a boxing fan but more importantly Ima christian. You ve been an encouragetment fot me thru the years as far my walk with the Lord JESUS CHRIST is concerned.AS a young christian man it some times hard trying to live all out for the Lord with all the temptations in this wicked world.I ve even been tempted many times to go back to my old life style. But during those times the good Lord would direct my attention to many wonderful solid christians who were bold living there faith out in the open and going hard fo the Lord and that inspieried me not to give and know that better days were comin my way.You were one of the people the good Lord used to encourage me durin them difficult times.I just wanted to let you know that with the Lord you are making a difference. So keep doin what your doin keeping GOD first, being faithful to your wife n childen being that shining light in a dark place and knocking boyz out with love of corse. ps them good days the LORD promised are finally here just got myself a job glory be to GOD! im estatic. peace1 JESUS is LORDBy torn From fairfield, CA
- "Brotha, thanks for you encouraging words. For me, this is what it is all about. The victories are great, winning my Gold Medal was great and winning Championships will be great. To hear you say that something I said/did encouraged you surpasses all of those things. You said that I was encouraging you brotha, now you are encouraging me. Your intimacy with the Lord (prayer, reading your bible and fellowship with other believers) is what is going to cause you to not only survive but to thrive in this journey of life. Brotha, you have the power to stand and to do what is right. I hope my life is a living witness of this because I wasn't always walking on a straight path but by the power of God I can say that I am now. As i keep doing what I am doing, keep doing what you are doing. Congrats on the new job! Do you have church home?"
- Dear Mr. Ward,
I am a huge fan of yours and have been for a long time. I think you are the best boxer in the world. You are so skilled and talented. I was wondering can you please send me an autograph? I would be honored to have your autograph. I will treasure it forever. Thank you so much Mr. Ward!!
