After looking at Welshman Nathan Cleverly Id like to go to the other side of the Atlantic to talk about American hotshot Andre Ward. The Californian Super Middleweight is just 25 and unbeaten in 21 with the WBA title already around his waist. Andre has entered the Super Middleweight Super Six tourney and has already beaten favourite Mikkel Kessler in the 1st stage. Kessler may have been cut, but was ultimately beaten even before the cuts.

Just before beginning his remarks tomorrow, Mayor Sbranti will honor Dublin resident and World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Middleweight Champion Andre Ward with a key to the City. Ward holds an undefeated record of 21-0 with 13 Knockouts as a professional boxer. He has won more than 120 matches as an amateur, including the Gold Medal at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games. Ward has not lost a bout as an amateur or a professional since 1996. In addition to his achievements in the ring, the Mayor will recognize his continued commitment to working with and inspiring at-risk youth throughout the Bay Area.

Ward last month became our most visible world champion, ascending to the peak of his sport by winning the World Boxing Association super welterweight title. He won it in our backyard, his hometown, before 10,000 at Oaklands Oracle Arena and a worldwide Showtime TV audience. He entered the ring Nov. 21 an underdog challenger and dominated the champ, Denmarks Mikkel Kessler, a man with a longer and vastly superior resume.

The only time Andre Ward talks trash is when he is wheeling it to the curb at his home in Oakland, Calif.

Tuesday morning, newly crowned WBA super middleweight champion, Andre Ward, and his promoter, Dan Goosen, hosted a press breakfast at Sisleys Italian Kitchen in Sherman Oaks, CA, to talk about Wards convincing upset victory over dethroned Mikkel Kessler, Wards next challenger, former undisputed middleweight champion, Jermain Taylor, and also about his thoughts about his future in boxing.

We welcome the new WBA super middleweight champ to talk about his impressive win over Mikkel Kessler last Saturday night as well as talk to Danny Swift Garcia about his upcoming fight on the Hopkins-Ornelas undercard.

As of late Sunday afternoon, it still had not hit Andre Ward that he was the newly minted WBA super middleweight champion. The night before in front of a hometown audience at the Oracle in Oakland, California, he had thoroughly dominated the respected Mikkel Kessler with a display of skilled boxing that befuddled the Dane all night long. It wasnt so much of a shock that Ward pulled the upset, what was eye-opening was the ease in which he did it.  

In front of a home crowd, in a fight where he was the decided underdog, against an opponent who had over twice as much professional experience, and against a backdrop of concern about the decline in Americas place in the boxing world, Andre Ward delivered the best performance of his career Saturday night, and was rewarded with his first world title belt.
