Andre Ward will be fighting in April to improve his chances of advancing in the Super Six World Boxing Classic, that much is for sure. Now, it seems Ward’s opponent is in question.

Former middleweight champion Jermain Taylor withdrew from the tournament January 12, citing health concerns. Taylor was defeated by Arthur Abraham in their opening round bout and was knocked unconscious in the process. Taylor was later hospitalized with a severe concussion, and even reported short-term memory loss.

Ward and Taylor were set to square off April 17, but that match-up is now officially out of the question.

What does this mean for Ward? No plans have been announced to reschedule the bout as of yet, and a replacement for Taylor will likely be the winner of a contest between Sakio Bika (28-3-2, 19 KO) and Allan Green (29-1, 20 KO). Bika is most known for his triumph in the 2007 “Contender” tournament.

Whoever wins, Ward awaits him, and the Super Six roll on.
